This was a pretty long book, over 600 pages. It is a mystery set in late 1800's New York. There is a seriel killer on the loose, only the police don't really believe any of the murders are related. It is through the work of the police chief, a psychologist, news reporter, female secrety, and two police detectives that the killer is finally caught. The investigators use some new techniques, such as finger printing, to try and catch the killer.
I thought this book was tough to get into, I didn't really like it at the beginning. The book picked up about half way through and ended up being very good.
