The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver
This is the banned/challenged book for the month. I'm actually not sure why it was banned/challenged. I didn't see anything in the story that caught my eye as the reason.
This is a story about Taylor. She grows up in a small town in Kentucky where most girls get pregnant and drop out of school. She wanted something better for herself. She gets a job and eventually buys a car and takes off on her own journey. Somewhere along the way an old Indian lady puts a child in her car and then leaves, forcing Taylor to look after the child. Taylor ends up in Arizona. She meets a nice women who gives her a job and another lady around her age who has a baby - where she rents a room. This is Taylor's story - how she finds happiness and love.
I actually really enjoyed this story. I remember reading one of Kingsolver's novels in high school and not being too impressed - but after reading this book I think I will try some of her others.

Hey Kris, glad you liked it. Now that I'm thinking of it I think I read Animal Dreams rather then this other title by Kingsolver. I think you would enjoy Prodigal Summer. It's hard to put down and interesting.
I hope you're having a nice night!!
