The Fairy-Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley

This is book 1 in The Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley.

Sabrina and Daphne Grimm lost their parents about 1.5 years ago and have been in and out of foster care since then. Now they are on their way to their Grandma's house - only they don't believe this because their parents told them that their grandmother was dead.

Once they get there, Daphne(the younger of the two) immediately likes her and believes she is their Grandma. Sabrina, on the other hand, does not. Their Grandma is very strange and it seems to be getting worse. The second day they are there they go in search of a giant. A giant for goodness sake!! Their grandmother tries to explain that they are decedents from the Grimm's who wrote all the fairy tales, but that they aren't fairy tales, they are real.
Sabrina doesn't believe them until their Grandma is captured by the giant and the girls try to save her. In doing say, they meet all manner of individuals who they thought only existed in fairy tales.

This first one was just ok, I didn't like it at first but then it did grow on me. I just love the idea of it. I plan to read the second in the series, at some point, just because I like the Grandmother and the story did get better towards the end. I also think that maybe I didn't like it that much but can see how kids would love it.
