This is the 1st in the series.
Harry Dresdon is a wizard. While there are several wizards in the world, he is the only one who advertises it in the phone book.
Harry receives a call from a client who says her husband is missing, she doesn't want to go to the cops because she believes Harry would have better luck finding him. Recently her husband started to try and be a wizard.
So Harry agrees to see what he can find. In the meantime, he is a contact with the police. Karrin Murphy calls him and wants him to come view a crime scene. She is pretty sure a wizard was to blame. When Harry gets there, he finds that the hearts of both victims have been forced from their bodies, and yes, a wizard did it.
Harry must help figure out the crimes and find the missing husband. However..it looks more and more like the two are connected. Plus, somebody is out to destroy Harry, so just one more thing he has to worry about.
I have been meaning to read this series for a really long time. I'm not sure what took me so long! I loved it! Harry is such a great character. You gotta love a wizard who goes around in sweats and cowboy boots, since all his other clothes are dirty and his huge cat lost one of his shoes. lol!
