Word Meter - fun way to see progress for challenges

When I was checking out Beth F.'s blog, I noticed that she had meters that showed the progress of all the challenges she is participating in. I just had to have them myself!

When I put my cursor over the meter's, it gave me the name 'Zokutou word meter". A quick google search found me the website for the Zokutou word meter.

I thought the word meter was very easy to use. You enter the current number (in my case it's the current number of books I have read for the challenge), the total (in my case it's the total I need/want to read for the challenge). You then select a color. Or, I selected worm. The color ends up being green and orange and puts two eye's on the end. I couldn't pass that up! For type I select Modern. You then click on Submit. It loads a page with some HTML in it. You just copy that HTML and paste it into the gadget! Easy as pie!

I believe this is actually supposed to be used for those participating in NaNoWriMo, as a way to keep track of how many words they have written. However, I think Beth had a great idea to use it for challenges.

I then thought that others would probably like this feature. So there you go....have fun!

oh, and the only issue I see with this...each time you read a book for a challenge, you will have to go back to the website and generate the code again. It's not really that time consuming. For me I think it will be more of an issue to actually remember to do it. haha!

How funny - I was looking at the same thing this morning after reading Beth's blog!

Here's a tip - At the end of the code there's a percentage in (). Remove this. Then if you want to change the number of books read, go to near the end of the code and change the number - it's pretty easy to find where this number is in the code. This way, you don't have to go back to the site and start all over each time.

I've seen these on other sites and wondered if new code had to be generated each time. Thanks for answering that question! I would forget, too. :-)

Lynne - Thanks for the info! I see what area you are talking about it. I tested it, and it did change the numbers, but didn't' change how far the color moved on the generator. I'm going to play around and see if I can find that feature in the coding though...because that would be much easier.

Glad you all are having fun with the progress bars. I go into the code and remove the words that appear underneath the bars -- too much clutter for my taste.

I don't mind going back to generate the code; by clicking on the bar, you're taken right back to the site.

Beth - silly me, I didn't even check to see if I could click on the bar. haha! Thanks for that info.
