There's an APP for that....

I don't have a smart phone (although I want one) but my Mom does. She recently downloaded an App to help keep her books organized.  One of the reasons she wanted a smart phone was so she could keep a list of books she owned handy, that way when she was at the store she could look up a book to know if she already owned it or if it was one she wanted to purchase.

The app she has is called Bookworm (not to be confused with the game of the same name) and I'm pretty sure it was free (she's with Verizon).   I had a chance to play with this app over the weekend.

You can manually enter book info or, and my favorite, you can scan the barcode!  Then the book will be added to the database.  You can sort the database by author or title (and other things I think but I can't remember).  You can mark the book as read and I believe you can rate it also.

I think this app would be a ton of fun!  If you see a book you are interested in at the bookstore but don't plan on buying it, just scan the barcode and save it for later.   Read a lot of series and sometimes get confused on which books in the series you have read, just add it and next time you get ready to buy a book in that series, you'll know which ones you have already read.

If I didn't already want a smart phone, this would really make me want one (and the game Angry Birds..don't get me started on that game...talk about addicting).

You got me all excited, I went to itunes and they don't have it :(
Sounds really cool and I like that you could scan the barcode. I'm forever going to target writing down titles and authors of books I want to read!!

I'll have to look for the Bookworm app and see if it's free for iPhone. I have the free Goodreads app now - I've been a member for 3 years or so. It seems to do what I need but I'm always open to something better/easier.

Bermudaonion + Leeanna..hmmm, if they don't have one named bookworm, maybe apple will have something similar? It would be a really cool app to have.

I don't have smartphone yet but this sounds so awesome. I've got to tell my sister-in-law about this app so she can get it for her 'smarter-than-me-phone' soon. Oh, she's gonna flip!

Mary - Based on the other comments I'm not sure it is available for the iphone, but I bet there is something similar.

Alison - I hope she likes the app..if she can get it.

Mel - You're welcome..and it does sound fun doesn't it?

I recently got a smart phone and have been having so much fun with it. I admit though I haven't explored the apps very much. I'm just loving being able to check my e-mail anytime I want!

LibraryThing has a free app that I discovered and use (with a bar code scanner) and since I already use that site, I figure it'll come in handy. I'll have to check out Bookworm though, just to see what that one is like.

Literary Feline - I'm envious of all with a smart phone! lol! I just love the idea of a bar code scanner...that's the coolest thing ever! And...you should check out the game Angry Birds (it might be free, it was for my Mom), but when you get addicted to it, don't remember that I suggested it. lol
