This was my second time reading this novel. I read it the first time in highschool and loved the book. The second time around - didn't really like it. I think I could relate to it more when I was a teenager and now I am older and more mature and think I didn't like it because I just couldn't relate to Holden any more. I also must say that the author had the boy repeating lines a lot - and that style of writing just bothers me, so that was part of it too. I actually finished the book on Friday but waiting to post the review until after bookclub, which was on Sunday. It received mixed reviews - some ladies enjoyed it, others couldn't get in to it. Most of the people that didn't really enjoy it had the same feelings I did, they just couldn't relate to Holden.

Have you read Curtis Sittenfeld's "Prep"? It's been talked up as a modern day Catcher. I'm pretty sure that everyone has a little bit of Lee Fiora (the main character) in them.
I have seen the book at stores but haven't read it, thanks for suggesting it.
In addition to Sittenfeld's "Prep," Michael Dolan's "WALDEN" is also being touted as the modern-day Catcher.
