The Oxford Murders by Guillermo Martinez

Very interesting mystery novel, not the kind you normally see me review on this blog. I really enjoyed it. I even thought I knew who did it half-way through the book, only to find that I was very wrong. lol!
A young math wiz goes to Oxford on grant to study mathematics. He rents a basement apart from a lady and one day when he rings the door to give her the rent, she doesn't answer. Soon Arthur Seldom, a known math wiz, shows up and insists they go on in. They find the lady dead and it appears to be murder. When the police get there Seldom mentions having received a note in his pigeonhole (gotta love the British) that said the ladies name, a time, and had a circle. He believes it was the murders calling card. Soon...another murder takes place. At first it appears to be natural causes but because another calling card was left, the police and Seldom, and the young math wiz know it was murder. The two math guys try to find the link and help the police find the killer. But wait - you won't believe the twist at the end. It through me for a loop.
This book was at times hard because you have Seldom talking to the other math wiz about theories and well...I'm not much of a theory/math type of person so sometimes it seemed to much for me. I actually had to concentrate, which is hard to do when the husband won't stop talking to me- even though he knows I'm reading and not watching whatever show is on tv. haha! That being said - it was still a great book and I really liked it. I would actually be interested to know what somebody thinks of this book who is a math wiz or enjoys theories.

I've seen this at the library and pass up on a couple of times because of the math issue! ha,ha. That's terrible but I really am not a math person. Glad to hear it was a good book and maybe next time I'm at the library and see it, I'll pick it up.

Oooh! It sounds right up my alley! While I am an elementary ed major, my area of study is math! I love all things math and this sounds like a ton of fun!

Wow sounds like that Numbers show in book format. Great to hear about that at all.

You've made this title very tempting! Maybe I should make my hubby read it first--math is his thing--and he can tell me if it will be too much for me. Haha
