Book questions

I admit - I stole this from somebody at Reading is Sexy (a group on VOX) - but I loved the questions and wanted to answer them as well.

Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror?
Horror for the most part. I like some fantasy...but don't read that many.

Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback?
I used to prefer hardback but now that trade paperback is so popular - I much prefer that one.

Amazon or brick and mortar?
I like shoping at the brick and mortar stores but use amazon to get some good deals or books that the local stores don't have in stock.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Borders. I used to love Barnes and Noble but their mystery section isn't nearly as good as Borders, plus now Borders has the rewards points - so they get most of my business.

Bookmark or Dogear?
augh - how could you even think of deogear? I use a bookmark - I never dogear a book.

Alphabetize by author, alphabetize by title or random?
hmm - interesting. I don't alphabetize right now because I don't have enough space. I group by genre and then group books by the same author together. Once I have my library built in the house - I will group by genre and then alphabetize.

Keep, Throw Away or Sell?
I keep most of them and sell some.

Keep dustjacket or toss it?
Always keep a dustjacket

Read with dustjacket or remove it?
remove dust jacket for reading.

Short story or novel?
I prefer a novel.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Harry Potter! (but I also enjoy the Lemony Snicket series)

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I try to stop at chapter breaks but that doesn't always work out

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?
For the most part "It was a dark and stormy night" but I admit to also enjoying "Once upon a time"

Buy or Borrow?
I buy the majority of my books and borrow some.

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse?
Mostly it is based on recommendations and book reviews for mystery books and some fiction. Most of my non-mystery books are due to browsing.

Lewis or Tolkien?
Tolkien

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)?
Collection

Tidy ending or Cliffhanger?
Hmm...this is a hard one. I think I prefer tidy ending

Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading?
doesn't matter - I read whenever I can

Standalone or Series?
I love a good series

New or used?
mostly new

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
hmm - tough one. I really enjoyed The Blood Countess by Andrei Codrescu. That is the only one I can think of that I don't know anybody else who has read it

Top 5 favorite genre books read last year (in no particular order)?
too hard to decide. haha!

Top 5 favorite genre books of all time (in no particular order)?
same as above

5 favorite genre series (in no particular order)?
I love Harry Potter, and I can't decide on a mystery series - I read too many and love all of them, possible the series by Joanne Fluke
