The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

Mia Thermopolis is a normal teenage girl, tall, flat chested, and failing algebra. Then one day her father calls from Genovia where he lives (her parents were never married) and says he can't have any more kids. This doesn't upset Mia, but it upsets her Mom. Next thing Mia knows, her Dad is in town and explains that he is the Prince of Genovia and since he can't have any more kids, Mia is his only heir and therefore is Princess of Genova. What!!!!! Mia does not like this at all! To make matters worse, she is forced to become the princess even though she doesn't want to be and Grandmere comes to NY to give her princess lessons. (and Grandmere scares Mia). Grandmere makes Mia get her hare done professionally, now instead of being mousy brown and frizzy, it is straight with blond highlights - and Mia hates blond highlights! Why oh why did her Dad not have any other kids and why is she forced to be a princess? The only good thing is that once this is leaked to the press the hottest guy in her high school asks her to the dance. That's good right? Well...maybe not.

The funniest thing when I started reading this book is that I was surprised it was in diary form. Hello.....duh....the title is The Princess Diaries. haha! I guess from watching the movie I just didn't realize it was in diary form. The format didn't bother me though..I think it worked well for the story. I personally don't see why Mia didn't want to be a princess, I want to be a princess. lol! I thought some of the stuff was over the top but at the same time, it went well with the story and I thought it was really fun. There are more in this series and I do plan on reading them. I think this is a great book for a young girl. This is a banned/challenged book, I know I have read why it is banned/challenged but can't remember why and really can't figure it out from reading the book.

Here is a link to an article on another blog about the book being banned:

http://asifnews.blogspot.com/2006/12/meg-cabot-princess-is-banned.html

There is a link at the end of that article for more info, but it goes to her website and it's blocked for me at work (stupid work! haha!). So I haven't been able to read more on it yet.

This banned or challenged? Get out!!! If this isn't the sweetest most innocent piece of warm fluff ever, I don't know what is. Those challengy types are beyond comprehension.

I had no idea it was a banned book! I've only ever seen the movie, but I'll have to check the books out now!
