Shake Down by Joel Goldman

Special Agent Jack Davis is working on a case trying to bust some local drug dealers in Kansas City. He has started to shake recently, not sure what brings it on and unable to stop them. He has put off going to a Dr. because he wants to finish his case. He needs to hide it from his team and boss at the FBI though.

One night while watching surveillance on a local drug dealers house, the lights go out at the house and he hears gun shots. He gets his team to the house and they find the drug dealer and some of his "friends" killed. His girlfriend and child are also murdered. While outside the house, Jack has one of his shakes. There is no way to hide it from his co-workers and he is official kicked off of the case and put on medical leave.

However, this doesn't stop Jack. He still feels like this is his case and with the help of a local police man, he investigates the case on his own. Things get heated up when another local drug dealer is murdered. Then his daughter goes missing, along with her boyfriend FBI agent - an agent Jack suspects is involved in these crimes.

Let's mix into the pot Jack's soon-to-be ex-wife and Kate, the lady he is kinda dating. It appears that Jack has a lot on his plate.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It's a stand alone by the author, so not part of his series. It is also the first I have read by the author. I liked Jack and was also sucked into the story and wanted to know how it was going to end. The ended did surprise me too. So overall, I thought this book was really good, I enjoyed the story and the characters.
