So my loyal readers will know that I love the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.
Should I start the countdown until the series based on her books airs on HBO? September 7th is the magical day....mark it on your calendar....pint a note on the tv....do whatever you need to do. lol!
Here's an article regarding True Blood that I found online at The New York Times.

I've been looking forward to this show, but now I'm worried because I haven't caught up with the books like I had planned over the summer. In fact I've only managed to reread the first one (a good thing because it had been so long), so now I fear I'll be spoiled about what happens in future books. I already was spoiled a bit when visiting a website that had descriptions of various characters and learned details that are definitely not in the first book. I guess I have my work cut out for me, or these are going to be sitting on my TiVo for a long time!
I envy you with the tivo. We used to have a DVR and I love it, I won't bore you with the details on why we don't have one now.
Everything I have read says the first season of True Blood is only the first book. So if that's the only one you have read, you should be cool. They might put more into the characters, but the story line shouldn't go past the first book.
I hope anyway! I've read all but the last two and I've been taking my time reading the series because I love it so much.
Well, I decided to take a break from some of my library books last night and started the second book, which I think should be okay based on this report from Comic-Con I just found: http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/07/24/hbos-true-blood-comic-con-report/
I mean, just reading this report gives away a little bit from the second book, so maybe I'm in more danger reading previews/reviews than watching the show itself? I'm hoping to read at least one book a month, so perhaps I'll be caught up before season 2 rolls around.
There are definitely things that confuse me about the characters (just Lafayette and Tara really -- I don't remember Lafayette playing a huge role in the first book and... And where did Tara come from? I don't remember her at all), but I'll just have to wait and see, I guess.
My TiVo is one of the best purchases I've ever made -- I recently was looking at my account and realized I've had it for nearly five years. I can't imagine TV without it. Plus, I bought a new desktop computer about a year ago with a TV tuner, so I'm able to record basic cable on that too (definitely helpful right now during the Olympics!).
Thanks for the article! I noticed that they mention staying true to the book as much as possible and then mention characters and things that don't happen in the first book. So...I guess we'll just wait and see.
