Books for a 1 year old?

So I've decided that we are getting my 1 year old nephew books for Christmas. However, I don't know what books a 1 year old would enjoy. I don't remember being 1, and I don't have any kids, so I'm turning to my faithful readers.

I have no idea which books Tommie already owns seeing as how he lives in Ohio. I'm also not sure what books he currently has that he enjoys having his parents read to him.

So...what books do you faithful readers feel a 1 year old would enjoy?

Our son enjoyed small chunky books that he could carry around and turn the pages in when he was that age.

For a one year old you need to buy board books because they are good chewing material, but the content needs to be good enough that his parents won't go insane reading it over and over again!
It's been a while, but I'm trying to remember favorites: The Hungry Caterpillar, The Three Bears, Goodnight Moon, Mr. Gumpy's Outing

Board books with music/sound effects? I gave my nephew a Funny Faces Rocky Dog board book for his 2nd birthday. When the music turned up, he would shake his head and dance to it. :D

Definitely board books. My 19 month old loves Dear Zoo. Flaps to life are okay if they are thick enough (like in the book I suggested) but no popups or things with flimsy tabs. They will get ripped. Books that show other babies are always a hit. Books about cats and dogs are popular too.

Yep, board books. My kids shredded and munched till about two years of age. They even make some little plastic baby books that kids can look at in the tub. Or, at least, they used to.

Sandra Boynton Board books are huge hits with my little ones. Also Eric Carle Board books. My 1 year old daughter loves The Very Busy Spider because of all the animals in it. A lot of picture books are also made into board books. I would just hit the section with the board books and browse and see what catches your eye.
