Oracles of Delphi Keep by Victoria Laurie

#1
Copyright: 2009
Publisher: Delacorte Books
Genre: young adult/young reader
Pages: 560
My rating: 3/5

Simple Description:
Ian and Theodosia are both orphans at Delphi Keep.  Ian is older and he is best friends with and also looks after Theo.  Ian is also an explorer.  One day while they are exploring a new underground tunnel he finds a box AND they are chased by a huge wolf beast.

That's when things start to get strange.  Soon the beast tries to attack the orphanage and goes for Theo the first chance the beast gets.  They also can't open the box.  Upon searching the tunnel again with the Earl and other adults hunting the beast they find the ancient language on the walls were meant for Ian.  But how is that possible?

Theo is also a seer, she gets images/glimpse into the future.  Something bad is coming.  Ian and Theo, along with some trusted individuals, go on a journey to help solve an ancient legend.

My Thoughts:
Overall I have to say I liked this book although I didn't love it.   However I that's because it's written for an age group sooo much younger than me. I can totally see the proper age group (10 and up) loving this book.

I think sometimes the banter between the kids was a tad annoying but that's another thing where I think kids won't notice that or think that. As an adult I just wanted to say "Let's move on kids, let's not act that way, etc".

I did like the idea of this story and I liked that there are more to it. I can see the characters evolving and the mystery/adventure keeping kids interested.

Yeah, some middle grade books that are great for kids don't translate too well for the older crowd.
