All seems to be going well for the four pediatricians who work together in Tucker, Vermont. Then, one of the pediatricians, Mara, commits suicide. The other three pediatricians are deeply affected by this, because they all though Mara was happy and feel guilty they weren't there for her more. Then….all three of their lives, lives they thought were perfect, start to crumble.
Angie believes she has the perfect life. She has the perfect husband and a son. Then, she finds out that her son would rather board at the local boarding school instead of be home. She finds out that her husband has been having an affair for 8 years. How is she going to handle this?
Peter, who tried to act like Mara's death didn't effect him, has a secret. He was in love with Mara. The death is hitting him hard, but he tries to hide it.
Paige considered Mara her best friend. She can't believe Mara would do this and tries to unravel the mystery. Mara was expecting to adopt a child from India; one night while Paige is at her friend's house getting it ready to be sold, the adoption agency shows up with the baby. Paige, who is single and wanted it to remain that way, believes she owes it to Mara to look after the baby until another family is found. Life gets more complicated with Paige continues to run into the new head master at the boarding school, Noah. She tells herself she doesn't like Noah, but for some reason she is drawn to him.
This is the first book I have read by this author. I was sucked in from the very beginning, wonderful story. Each of the characters takes turn telling their story, what is currently going on in their lives. While they all seemed to have things as perfect as can be in their lives, you find out that it isn't, and stick with the characters as they try to put things right.
