Genre: Mystery
Pages: 290

My rating: 2/5

Simple Description:
Tess lost her job as a reporter and since then has kinda been loving off of other people’s handouts. Taking jobs from family and friends when offered.  However things take a turn for the worst when her friend Rock pays her to follow his fiancĂ© and figure out what she’s hiding.  Tess determines she’s having an affair.  She convinces the fiancĂ© to tell Rock, however the problem is that when Rock talks to the guy she had the affair with, and that guy ends up dead, Rock is the only suspect.
Tess is then hired by Rock’s lawyer to investigate the murder and try to figure out what really happened.

My Thoughts:
This book was just, eh. I never really connected with Tess, I didn’t like how she wasn’t driven and ok with taking handouts.  The the story didn’t really seem to go anywhere. Sure, Tess was asking questions and following leads, but half the time the leads didn’t really seem to have anything to do with clearing her friend’s name.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and sadly it will probably be the last. Unless somebody let’s me know that her other books are better than this one.  As it is, I won’t be continuing with this series.

I've read this one and enjoyed it enough to pursue that others in her series. This was her first book and even she says it was not her strongest at all. I've read a few stand alones of hers that are much later in her writing career and they are pretty good.
I'd give her another chance!
