Simple Description:

This is the second in the trilogy and while Jess Cameron does make an appearance (the first novel was mostly his story) this one focuses on his brother, Daniel.  Daniel is fighting for the South.  He might not agree with everything but he is loyal to the South. 

During one battle he is wounded and left unconscious on the field  The field happens to be the front lawn of the house Callie Michaelson lives in. He wakes up and realizes that if he doesn't reach safety he will be put in a war prison so he makes his way to her house.  At first he forces her to hide him for the night but he becomes very ill and she ends up taking care of him because it's the right thing to do.  While he is there they both realize they are attracted to each other even though they are on different sides of the war.

Soon they show their feelings for each other but then Daniel is caught by the Union.  He believes it's all Callie's fault and she set up him.  He is too upset to learn the real story once he escapes prison and is back fighting for the South.

Meanwhile Callie must deal with the results of their feelings for each other.  As she is a widow who is now pregnant. 

Once Daniel finally makes it back to her house to tell her how upset he is, he realizes there is a child in her house and it's his son. He forces Callie to go South with him as he takes the son to his family home to be raised. 

Will these two forever fight or will they relax and listen to each other and admit they do love each other and figure out a way to make the relationship work?

My Thoughts:

I really loved the first one in the series.  While I liked this one, I didn't love it.  I hate to say this, but once again I think it's just my mood and where I'm at in life.  This book was just as good as the first one, I just didn't like it as much.  No real reason why.  Don't get me wrong though, it was still a great story. I still highly recommend it.  I still plan on reading the third one in the trilogy.  

While I have not checked up on the research, from what I do know, it seems like the author did a fairly decent job of research the historical aspects of the war.  Mentioning the battle and the key players seemed corrected and well thought-out. I could be wrong though.  I thought this book was a good mix of the historical and romance.   I definitely recommend it.
